Our little Hemi baby...

Hemi: an internal combustion engine in which the combustion chambers are of hemispherical form. (Boils down to FAST!)
Our Hemi was definitely fast... he would race around the house from room to room jumping over furniture and attacking unsuspecting toys! Hemi was one of the best kitties we have ever had. He was almost more like a dog than a cat. He bonded with us instantly! We loved this cat so much!!

Last week we had to do one of the hardest things as an owner of a "furry kid". We had to make the decision to put our little 1 year old kitty to sleep. About 6 weeks ago we noticed that Hemi had what seemed like a kitty cold when we returned from vacation, so Wayne brought him in and got him on some antibiotics. He seemed to get a little better but did not seem to full recover like he should. About 2 1/2 weeks ago or so I noticed that his belly seemed to be very bloated. Wayne decided to take him back in to the vet in case he had a blockage and the news he was given was horrible!! Our little guy had a disease called FIP which is not curable. Basically what is involved with FIP is the virus going into all the organs and destroying them from the inside out and causing them to leak fluid. That fluid then builds up in the open cavity of the body (hence why his belly was getting bigger and bigger) and causes many things to happen one being a very painful death. Unfortunately at this time they have no way of helping cats with this disease. From what we have been told it is very contagious to other cats (not people or dogs thank goodness) so chances are pretty good that our other cat has it too although she is not showing signs yet. In the long run after trying several things on our own, we realized that Hemi was not going to get better, and his quality of life was not good at all. The decision to put him down before he started showing signs of major pain was so difficult! I guess it is only human to think: Was there more I could have done to help him, did we do the right things, etc... however I felt that he was letting me know in little ways that he was ready to go. Wayne was such a trooper and took him in as I was not able to handle the stress of it all again so soon after loosing Kota. We ended up burying him with all of our other family pets in my mom's backyard.

Hemi the day we got him. (guess he had to grow into those ears!)

We had never met a cat that would stretch out to full length like this before. :)

He loved to lay on the sofa!

We loved this little face soooo much!
We miss you little Hemi!!!
